Can anyone tell me please if the Kebnekaise Fjellstation is open in that time of the year?
If not, is there any other accomodation possible in the area near the mountain?
Thanks for your help!
Any info on portuguese mountains, do not hesitate in asking me!
Warm regards to all!

Ola Filipe,

Fjällstation:
Kenbnekaises Fjällstation is the closest to the mountain, you also will find the "Tarfla" but even this one just open from 10.03.2006 - 01.05.2006
of course there will be other possiblities but be aware that you will always have a big advance untill you can reach the first ascent.

further you have to think about the "daylight" in beginn of jan. you wouldn't get more as an hour, end of jan. approx. 3 hours. so for sure you have to walk in the dark and dawn. depent on your experience..make your choice, but darknees in the mountain isn't a "take away pizza" wink
and you will be in the deep winter, avalanches will be also a topic (depend on the route you choose).

so it is for sure not impossible, but think twice and prepare your self with a really good tour preparation.

do not hesitate to ask more

there is something learned from a rainstorm. when meeting with a sudden shower, you try no to get wet and run quickly along the road. but doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet.
when you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you still get the same soaking.
this understanding extends to everything.

Re: Kebnekaise in Winter?

Hej,

I am new to this place. I plan to make a long Norlandtour this coming February 08. One stop is to get to the top of the Kebnekaise. I was wandering if there are guided tours or groups going up at that time. I am fine with going alone but I think in a small groupe this is going to be much safer, since it is winter!
I am also looking for more material, such as maps and experiences from other people.

So if you have any info which seems interesting to me let me know.

thanks in advance

Sebastian

Re: Kebnekaise in Winter?

Hi All,
I also have friends planning a trip to Kebnekaise this February 2008.  I have been reading accounts of people attempting the mountain, but most tend to be in April, when the days are longer and a bit warmer.  I was wondering if anyone could suggest any resources / accounts from the earlier winter months?
Thanks, Kelly
